Artist Bio: Valerie Neumark

Valerie Neumark has been a working artist since 1998.
She received her undergraduate training from the University of California San Diego and currently holds a Master's in Education with a Teaching Credential in Art from Pepperdine University.

Neumark's believes that the world has grown too impersonal. With instant messaging as the generational standard for communication, true interconnectedness is lost. Neumark' sees this isolation illustrated in much of the art created today and hopes to bring a more compassionate look into artistic practice.

Neumark consistently uses portraiture as a vehicle to express life experiences. Where her past work used narration to express interpersonal relationships, her current pieces take a more abstract approach. She now focuses on the breaking apart and reinterpreting of imagery.

Through commentary on the loss of intimacy in our instant messaging society, she depicts interpersonal empathy in her artistic practice.
